I remember feeling this firsthand during my own schooling—sometimes I grasped concepts quickly, other times I needed a different explanation or more practice, but the class moved on regardless. This left me feeling overwhelmed and unheard, which caused me to dislike school at a young age. I was a bright, curious kid who learned differently. It wasn’t until college when I started to engage again.

Nowadays there’s a new LLM (Large language model) tool every day, it seems. Students, and their teachers, are starting to pay attention to how they learn best, because they now have the tools to truly customize learning at a massive scale. There is an urgent and undeniable demand for a more flexible, responsive, and individualized educational approach. Artificial Intelligence is filling that need, offering the potential to fundamentally reshape learning experiences to meet these contemporary demands.

What Is Multimodal Learning and Why Does It Matter?

Different students learn in different ways. Some understand better through images. Others prefer audio or hands-on practice. AI makes this easier. It can turn text into visuals, explain concepts out loud, or create simulations students can interact with. This helps students stay engaged. It also improves memory, understanding, and motivation—especially when learning feels tough or dry.

  • For Visual Learners: AI can transform complex, dense information, like long textbook chapters or intricate data sets, into easy-to-understand visuals. Think mind maps, diagrams, flowcharts, and other graphic organizers. This visual representation makes abstract concepts tangible and much easier to absorb, comprehend, and remember long-term.
  • For Auditory Learners: AI offers the ability to convert written text into natural-sounding audio. This means students can create custom podcasts from their study materials, lecture notes, or research articles. This feature allows for flexible learning on the go—during commutes, exercise, or chores—and reinforces comprehension through active listening.
  • For Kinesthetic Learners: AI can create highly interactive simulations, virtual experiments, and dynamic role-playing scenarios. This allows students to “learn by doing” and physically engage with the content. This hands-on, experiential approach helps kinesthetic learners understand complex concepts through practical application and active participation, solidifying their understanding in a way that passive learning cannot.

This focused practice makes learning more efficient.

AI can also connect past events to current news, making history relevant and improving recall. AI can help a teacher make history come alive.

It enables students to run virtual experiments and simulations, visualizing intricate processes like trajectory, providing hands-on experience without a physical lab. AI can also organize and interpret large datasets, presenting clear visual trends to simplify complex scientific information.

Beyond direct academic support, Artificial Intelligence plays a pivotal role in cultivating “future-ready” or “durable” skills that are increasingly essential for success in an AI-transformed world.
